Bill Murray starred in the 1993 movie Groundhog Day where a weatherman finds himself inexplicably living the same day over and over again.  In 2020 I think we can all relate:)

People need to be creative and fulfill a sense of purpose.  In the movie, he lived the same day over and over until he got it right.  Until he found his purpose to give his life meaning and fulfillment.  You can have multiple areas to feel complete through for your family life, personal growth, business, etc.

I attended a conference in Austin, Texas at the end of 2019 called Ask Live.  It was there that I met Hal Elrod, who spoke about his book Miracle Morning.  Hal talked about his incredible life’s journey that led him to discover a morning routine that set him up to become his best self and fulfilled each and everyday with a sense of purpose.

Most people tend to dread waking up in the morning.  They hit the snooze button over and over, trying to avoid facing their day.   I think we all have been there.  I can say that all of last year I would get up at 4 or 5 in the morning, excited to get up and work on this business.  If I completed 1 thing, it set up the rest of my day to feel fulfilled and happy with my family and with my day job.  And the days I didn’t get up early and didn’t make headway on what was my new purpose, my day felt like groundhog day.

“Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise,” Benjamin Franklin.

Just yesterday was the premiere of Hal’s new Miracle Morning movie.  If you’re not a book reader, then the movie could be a great start to tap into your potential.  A morning routine helps you set the day right.  Move toward your goals 1 step at a time.  Nothing happens over night.  I can get a lot done by first creating a priority list of things I need to get done.  Then chip away at them throughout the day, week or month.

Through his research on habits that billionaires, athletes and successful CEO’s all developed in their morning routines, Hal combined these practices into a super morning routine he calls, SAVERS.  An acronym for each step of a successful morning ritual; Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading, and Scribing.

What if you have so much going on in your life that you don’t even have time to move toward your purpose… or worse yet even find your purpose?   This is why you must get up so early in the morning to set your day right.  This is something to do before your normal day begins.  And if you still feel that you have so much going on in your life that even getting up this early, you still won’t have time to focus on your purpose?

Outsourcing:

I delegate as much as possible so I can focus on what I do best.  You become happier when you are productive toward your purpose rather than someone else’s.  Small wins everyday.   Some of the leads or supervisors that I have managed in my film career would complain about being swamped with too much to do, so they wouldn’t have time to do interviews to bring people in to help them become less swamped.  There would be candidates ready to be interviewed and hired, but that of course takes time.  I’d tell them that if you prioritize that time to find people, then you will soon be able to catch back up to where you are now, but do almost twice the work as before.

I have recently learned to swallow that advice in my own life.  When my wife had a stroke a few months ago, I have had to learn to be an ultra delegator in order to focus on what I do best and what my purposes are.  I’ve discovered through this seemingly personal / family/ 2020 world tragedy the importance of togetherness, the importance of self reliance, but at the same time the importance of accepting help… and even more importantly, asking for help.  Whether through friends and family or even finding ways to pay people to gain back your valuable time to keep pushing toward your purpose.

All of us are living in this tragedy of the cerveza sickness, but equally the tragedy of elites seeking and implementing control over us.  Let’s look at what we can be grateful for and push back on these thought police and dependancy on government and rely on each other as free people.  There is no way to fulfill your purpose if these power hungry people end up taking away our rights and liberties.  My purpose: to make economics less boring and more interesting through the magic of movies and movie making… while revealing whats really going on behind the curtain.  I want you to find your purpose and then take action.  Pursue what gives you fulfillment and share it with others to add value to their life.  This act of creating and adding value to others creates purpose and meaning.  Discover your miracle morning and start 2021 with 365 days of fulfillment and end the year of groundhog days!
